I have an announcement to make! There will be a new addition coming to the Joyful Roots family in October. Yes, my husband and I are having a baby!
You may have noticed I’ve been a bit absent lately. The morning sickness (all day sickness) has done a number on me, but I’m almost to the end of the first trimester and I’ve been told things get better after that. Aside from eating pickles and mustard non-stop (really!) my brain has been super duper foggy and it has made it hard to come up with good content here and sound like my happy-go-lucky self. Thank you for being patient and hanging in there with me!
I know that having a child is going to bring a whole new level of excitement and busyness to my life, and I’m thrilled for what awaits! I plan to continue blogging as much as possible, but while I’m preparing for the new addition and I’d love some advice from all of you mothers out there!
A few questions have been mucking around in my mind, and I’d love for you to share your advice and ideas in the comments below:
- What is the best “fun” item you bought/received when you were expecting (or right after baby was born)?
- What is the best practical item you can recommend?
- Words of wisdom? How do you balance your business and your new baby?
Thanks everyone! You are the best!
Congrats on your news! Let us know along the way if it's a boy or a girl 😉

My recent post TOMS Giving Trip
Thanks so much, Julia! I will definitely keep you posted! We think we will find out around 20 weeks =D
Congrats to you!!! Amazing news!
For your questions … the best practical item I can recommend was a book by William Sears – without it I would have gone insane. And that was when I had my second child. 🙂 Apparently children ARE all VERY different. *laugh*
Guess I can not give much advice on the balancing of baby and biz – I only started my biz when my youngest was about 1 year old. And I am still struggling with the balancing bit 😉 even though my youngest is 3 now.
The best advice I can give is to just stay open minded – often you will not be able to change a situation, but if you can manage to shift your perception on it it can change your world. Hope that does not sound too "wooowooo". 😉
Wishing you all the best for this great adventure!

My recent post I give you …
Ursula- Thank you for all of your thoughtful advice! It is much appreciated! I will definitely have to check out William Sears's book. It's funny, I was just having a conversation with someone over lunch about how children are all so different and you can often tell a lot about their personality even while they are in the womb. =) As far as balancing, I bet it's just in constant flux…maybe there are no real answers to that one. ha! I love your advice about shifting your perception. It's so so true and I have used that technique before with really amazing results (although it's great to have reminders because I often forget that is possible!) So glad to have you hear and thanks again for your comments!
congratulations!
i can say a front carrier for the babe was priceless for me. i learned how to do almost everything with a baby strapped to my chest.
i also agree with ursula to shift your perception and adjust your expectations for how much you will be able to accomplish. when you are feeling a little panicky, take a minute to gaze into your babe's eyes and be thankful for his/her presence instead of feeling frustrated that you're not ticking things off your to-do list.
so happy for you!
Hi Tammie,
Thanks so much for you comment and suggestions1 I did pick up a front baby carrier and might even try a few different kinds depending on how this one works out 🙂 I slowly learning to shift my perception..or rather being forced into it…haha. Your suggestion is spot on…that's what I'm going to do!
