Submissions have begun for the Lilla Rogers Global Talent Search and I am so terribly excited! I know I’ve been promising you an update. I meant to give you one as I went along, but I got so on-a-roll and focused that I sort of forgot about posting it here. Anyway, I submitted my final artwork today, but I still have some peaks for you! I will show you the whole things once the finalists are announced August 1st. Oh, it’s going to be hard to wait so long!
I started the idea for the “playground journal” with some brainstorming andย pencil sketches which I then scanned into the computer. I placed those scans in Illustrator and started the rendering process. It gets pretty fun here. Below is a bit of a progress image…
After A LOT of finessing and a few moments of major self-doubt, I finally had a breakthrough and came up with something I am very proud of. Whether or not I win, the experience was worth every bit of time and effort. I learned a great deal about my style and feel that I’m heading in a better direction with my art + illustration overall. What’s more, the ladies over at the Oh My! Handmade Community Forums were great for pepping me up and offering some very valuable critiques. They helped guide me to a happy place with this illustration and I couldn’t be more grateful!
Here’s a sneak peek at part of the finished work. You’ll have to wait a little while for the rest, but it will be worth it, I hope! I’m dying of anticipation to show you, and to hear the finalists announced!
That is super cute!! I love that you point out that participating in things like this is a huge opportunity to up our game, learn, grow & push ourselves. That’s a win in itself but good luck as well!
Thanks a million Kerryn! It's definitely a win just to have this experience, but I'm still crossing my fingers! =D
Oh, I love it! Can not wait to see the whole thing! ๐
Wishing you all the best for the talent search!

Thank you so much Sheila! Illustrator can have a big learning curve (it’s not an intuitive program) but once you get it, it’s an amazing tool! Good luck with your learning process!
