I am so obsessed with Encaustic Art at the moment. I’ve been wanting to get my hands dirty and start experimenting with some of this beautiful medium, but until I can get myself a little encaustic set-up I’m going to salivate over all of the amazing encaustic art out there and share it with you.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with encaustic; it involves painting on a surface with a hot beeswax, to which you can add pigments. But what I find really appealing about the medium is that you can also add in other media to give a layered effect that is so stunning! You can also use metal tools and other objects to create textures in the wax for an even more dynamic nature. I’ve been spending the last week perusing the web, enamored by encaustic. Here are just a few of the favorite pieces I came across on Etsy.

If you haven’t seen an encaustic painting in person, you must. While it’s fun to go ga-ga over the images on the web, there is nothing like experiencing the results of this technique in person. There is so much more depth and color than what can be shown on a flat screen.
